Pejzaz velika panorama

Vujan Mountain is located in Šumadija, south of Gornji Milanovac. The highest peak of this mountain is Veliki Vujan with an altitude of 856 meters. Vujan mountain is almost completely covered by dense deciduous forest, except on the slopes towards the river Despotovica, where together with the slopes of Ilijak it forms the Brđanska gorge.

Beech forest prevails in the central part of the mountain, oak forest near Rožnja, and there are settlements in between. It is home to the Vujan Monastery, which is not known for sure when it was founded. It is known to originate from the thirteenth century.

In the fourteenth century, this area was settled by monks who escaped from Mount Athos. They founded the Obrovin monastery, which was destroyed by the Ottomans in the sixteenth century. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the Vujan monastery sprang up not far from that place. The monastery also represents the burial church of the Lunjevica family. One of the interesting things is that a wooden cross is kept in the monastery. That wooden cross was hand-made by the novice of the monastery, Gojko Starčević, known to all of us as Serbian Patriarch Pavle.

The biggest advantage of this mountain is its appearance during autumn. The mountain has a large number of hiking trails and is suitable for beginner hikers. When the leaves start to fall, the whole mountain is colored yellow-gold. It is said that walking along these paths, the spring water and the peace of the monastery, in 1946, helped Serbian Patriarch Pavlo to heal and continue his monastic path.

The road from Čačak to Gornji Milanovac passes over the mountain. It is 122 kilometers from Belgrade.
